Step 1:

Fly into Davao City:

For International Visitors, you can fly direct to Davao City, Philippines via Cebu Pacific Airlines or Silk Air from Singapore. If you’re entering the Philippines via the capital city of Manila, take a domestic flight to Davao City. The domestic flight to Davao City from Manila is serviced by four(4) major airlines with a combined frequency of fourteen(14) flights daily. More flights are expected as another airline is slated to open its domestic route in Davao City. Also frequent connections, Davao-Cagayan de Oro, Davao-Puerto Princessa and more.

Step 2:

Once on the airport: Once in Davao airport, you have to ride a taxi to one of the ports to Samal Island. Don’t listen to the car rental guys at the exit of the airport. This car rentals are to expensive and riding a taxi is very easy. When you walk up the stairs in the direction of the parking area (just straight), you will see the line of Taxi’s waiting there. Taxi drivers of Davao City are known as honest. Of course this is no guarantee so better make sure. Just check if the taxi driver starts his meter. If yes, no problem. If no, ask him to start the meter. In case a taxi driver starts to ask a fixed rate, don’t accept it. They have to use the meter otherwise you can report them to LTFRB.

Step 3:

Select the for you most convenient port to Samal Island:

1. Sta Ana Wharf(near Magsaysay Park, downtown area)

Sta Ana Wharf

Where motorboats are available to ferry passengers directly to Kaputian and Talikud Island.

2. Sasa, Km. 11 wharf

motorboat

Where motorboats are available to ferry passengers direct to Babak wharf. Pls be informed that you will have to pass trough the wet market of Sasa. You will have to carry your luggage on trough the wet small streets where big crowds of people are together. For a more comfortable ride, ask the taxi to bring you to the big ferry boat which also transports the busses and cars (nr.3).

3. Sasa, Km. 11 Ferryboat Landing

ferry bus

Where passengers will be riding the Island City Express Bus from R. Castillo and Cabaguio St. (satellite terminal) and be transported by a ferryboat to the Brgy. Kinawitnon, Babak District. You can also just go there by taxi. Tell the taxi driver clearly you want to go to the big ferry boat which also transports cars (called barge). If you don’t explain it clearly, the taxi will bring you to nr.2 Sasa, km.11 wharf. This is the best and most used ferry boat. This is also the only ferry boat who is able to transport cars and busses.
